The company was founded by Daniel Holihan in 1981 as Holihan Art & Signs. The business line consisted mainly of hand-painted and air-brushed signs, graphics and displays.

Michael Aukerman joined the company in 1993 and became full time partner in 1996. The company was then known as Holihan & Aukerman Sign Company.

Jeffrey Becht purchased the business from Holihan & Aukerman in March of 2000. Becht was previously the Vice President and General Manager for the Dayton region with a national outdoor advertising firm. The company was changed to Sign Dynamics in June of 2000. Today Sign Dynamics is one of the leading sign companies in Ohio with a diversified product line that includes a full spectrum of customers.
